You’ll find below announcements of currently open positions. Obviously I also welcome externally funded researchers (e.g. via Marie Curie fellowships, ERC grants, etc.). Help to prepare the relevant applications is available at my institute. Don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss details: Contact

Postdoctoral fellowships

“Marie Skłodowska-Curie” fellowships: application deadline typically early September (https://marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/). Feel free to reach out early to receive support for the preparation of the projects.

PhD thesis

Tidal disruption events in real time: from Rubin/LSST alerts to TeV gamma rays with H.E.S.S. and CTAO, and a bridge to LISA
When a star ventures too close to a supermassive black hole, it is torn apart by tidal forces in a tidal disruption event (TDE). These rare flares may launch relativistic jets that accelerate particles to extreme energies, yet no TeV gamma-ray emission from a TDE has been detected so far. The Rubin Observatory (LSST) will discover thousands of TDEs, provided they are identified early among millions of nightly alerts and followed up quickly. This PhD builds on our group’s TRACER project and will develop the gamma-ray branch of this chain: integrating the TDE candidates classified by the Fink broker into the Astro-COLIBRI platform (web and smartphone apps), and triggering and analysing observations with H.E.S.S. and, later, CTAO. In parallel, the student will explore a link to the future gravitational-wave observatory LISA, in particular extreme-mass-ratio inspirals in galactic nuclei, by studying joint TDE/LISA observability and defining how LISA alerts (timescales, thresholds, localisation) could be distributed through Astro-COLIBRI.

A Master level internship with preparatory work to the outlined PhD is available (see below).
Start date: autumn 2027 (subject to funding)

Externally funded PhD projects (for example as double-diploma arrangements across two universities) are also always possible.

Internships

Computer science: Apprentice student (“étudiant/e en alternance”, Master 1+2)
Join the Astro-COLIBRI team at IRFU, CEA Paris-Saclay, and contribute to the cutting-edge platform transforming real-time astrophysical phenomena observations. This dynamic role involves developing software for scientific data processing, enhancing user interfaces across web and mobile platforms, and implementing robust testing frameworks. Ideal for master’s students passionate about full-stack development, computer science, or UI/UX design, with skills in Python, Git/GitLab, and a solid command of English for international collaboration. First contacts with Dart/Flutter would be a plus.
Start date: September 2027

Astrophysics (Master 2): First Rubin/LSST alerts and tidal disruption events
The Rubin Observatory (LSST) delivers millions of alerts per night, among them tidal disruption events (TDEs), stars torn apart by supermassive black holes. In this internship you will review the first LSST alerts and the TDE classifier(s) of the Fink broker (purity, completeness, timeliness, contaminants), study and improve how TDE candidates are represented in the Astro-COLIBRI platform (web and smartphone apps), and learn the very-high-energy gamma-ray analysis tools by analysing archival H.E.S.S. data of transient phenomena, including TDEs where available. You will get a complete first view of the real-time multi-messenger chain, from the raw alert to the gamma-ray data analysis. We look for a Master 2 (or equivalent) student in astrophysics, astroparticle physics, physics or data science with a good command of Python.
Start date: spring 2027 (flexible)
Duration: 5-6 months

Astrophysics: other topics in real-time multimessenger astrophysics

Beyond the project above, externally funded internships are always possible. Feel free to get in touch with me: Contact
